Lakewood, Washington Weddings
A historic wedding destination rooted in legacy, landscape, and timeless elegance
Long before Lakewood became known for weddings, it was known as the vacation retreat for Tacoma’s elite.
In the early 20th century, prominent Tacoma families built summer estates along Lakewood’s chain of lakes—American Lake, Gravelly Lake, and Lake Steilacoom—drawn by clean air, boating, gardens, and privacy. Country clubs, castles, and formal estates followed, designed not just for living, but for gathering. Weddings, galas, and society events were part of Lakewood’s original purpose.
That history still defines the wedding experience here today. Lakewood offers something increasingly rare: authentic historic venues clustered in a quiet, refined setting, supported by experienced planners and surrounded by natural beauty. Weddings in Lakewood feel intentional rather than performative—elegant, calm, and grounded in place.
Why Lakewood works for wedding planning
From a planning perspective, Lakewood offers a unique advantage in the South Sound:
- A concentration of historic estates, golf clubs, and waterfront venues
- Short distances between venues, lodging, and rehearsal locations
- Established vendor relationships and experienced local planners
For couples hosting out-of-town guests, Lakewood allows the celebration to unfold over several days—welcome dinners, rehearsal gatherings, the ceremony itself, and relaxed post-wedding moments—without logistical friction.

"We are avid travelers who have become particular over the years, and we can confidently say this is one of the best properties we've rented. The cottage felt like a high-end retreat rather than just a rental. We were in the area for an event, so we only stayed a short time, but wish our stay was longer. The cottage was immaculate and ready for relaxation; it was warm inside and the fridge and cupboards were stocked with exactly what we needed. Lisa thoughtfully left drinks and local snacks which were wonderful after a long day of travel.
Lisa made our stay effortless and special, from the plush bedding and high-quality linens to the fully stocked kitchen with thoughtful touches like fresh eggs and four different ways to make coffee. The morning view over the lake was spectacular. Lisa was very communicative throughout our stay, and we appreciated her flexibility with providing a late check-out since we had a very late flight out that evening. We highly recommend this cottage." - Howard and Stacy
"This place exceeded all expectations! It was thoughtfully designed, impeccably clean and very peaceful. The furnishings were very comfortable.. The mattresses and linens were hotel-quality, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed (+ all the extras), and the heated bathroom floors were a delight in the winter. Being right on the water really made the stay. We had our coffee with lake views each morning. And we loved spending evenings by the fireplace watching the light change over the water - at night, the lights of the homes across the lake reflect off the water. Simply magical. This place is a rare find that feels both upscale yet relaxed. We’d book again in a heartbeat!! - Cherelyn and Jack
