Boathouse 19 is one of the closest waterfront restaurants to Chestnut Cottage. Tucked into the Tacoma Narrows Marina, it has relaxed Northwest energy and views across the water toward the Narrows Bridge.
The menu leans toward seafood, burgers, sandwiches and familiar comfort food. It is an easy choice when you want a casual waterfront lunch or dinner without traveling into downtown Tacoma.

Chambers Bay Grill
Set above Puget Sound at Chambers Bay, Chambers Bay Grill combines casual dining with one of the most impressive views in University Place.

You do not have to be a golfer to dine here. Pair your meal with a walk along the trails, a trip down to the beach or golden-hour photographs overlooking Puget Sound. The scenery is very much part of the experience.

Duke’s Seafood
Duke’s Seafood on Ruston Way is a longtime Tacoma waterfront favorite with views across Commencement Bay.
Its menu centers on seafood, including chowder, fish and chips, tacos, salmon and halibut, with salads, sandwiches and non-seafood choices as well.

Woven Seafood & Chophouse
For a more elevated waterfront experience, Woven Seafood & Chophouse blends Pacific Northwest ingredients with Hawaiian and Japanese influences.
Woven occupies a beautiful location along Ruston Way with views across Commencement Bay. Expect seafood, steaks, Japanese-influenced dishes and thoughtful cocktails. The restaurant serves lunch, dinner, happy hour and weekend brunch.

Harbor Lights
A Tacoma institution since 1959, Harbor Lights sits directly over Commencement Bay on Ruston Way. It is known for classic Northwest seafood, generous pours and a nostalgic waterfront atmosphere.
This is not the newest or trendiest restaurant on the waterfront—and that is part of its appeal. Harbor Lights feels unmistakably Tacoma.
Best for: Classic seafood, cocktails, sunset views and old-school Tacoma character.
WildFin American Grill
Located at Point Ruston, WildFin American Grill’s Tacoma page takes you directly to the local menu, hours, directions and Tacoma reservation link.
The menu includes seafood, steaks, burgers, salads and craft cocktails. Its location makes it easy to combine lunch or dinner with a walk along the waterfront, shopping or a movie at Point Ruston.
Best for: Groups with varied tastes, happy hour and dinner after exploring Point Ruston.
The Best Waterfront Restaurants in Gig Harbor
Brix 25°
For an intimate dinner in Gig Harbor, Brix 25° serves seasonal Pacific Northwest cuisine, handcrafted cocktails and a carefully selected wine list in a small waterfront setting.
This is one to plan ahead for. Brix is open for dinner on select days, and its intimate dining room can fill quickly. Guests can make a reservation directly through Brix 25°.
Best for: Date night, special occasions and seasonal Northwest cuisine.
Morso Bistro & Wine Market
Morso Bistro & Wine Market is a relaxed Gig Harbor favorite for wine, seafood, salads, flatbreads and shareable plates. The link takes you directly to Morso’s current food and wine selections.
Morso works beautifully as part of a leisurely Gig Harbor afternoon or evening. Explore the waterfront and downtown shops, then settle in for wine and dinner overlooking the harbor.

Our Favorite Date-Night Restaurants Within 30 Minutes of Chestnut Cottage
Not every memorable meal needs a water view. These non-waterfront restaurants are among our favorites for date nights, celebrations and evenings when the food and atmosphere take priority.
Marzano Italian Restaurant
Marzano Italian Restaurant has been serving Italian cuisine near Pacific Lutheran University since 1988.
Set inside a former home, Marzano feels intimate, energetic and welcoming rather than formal. The menu reflects owner Elisa Marzano’s Italian roots, with handmade pasta, Northwest seafood, braised meats, seasonal ingredients and pizza.
Marzano is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made directly through the restaurant’s website.
Best for: Italian food, handmade pasta and special dinners that do not feel overly formal.
Cuerno Bravo
For serious steak lovers, Cuerno Bravo is a Mexican steakhouse in downtown Tacoma known for prime, Wagyu and wood-fired cuts.

Over the Moon Café
Hidden along Opera Alley, Over the Moon Café is one of Tacoma’s most intimate restaurants. Its cozy, romantic atmosphere makes it a lovely choice for couples or anyone who prefers a quieter, unhurried dinner.

Matador Tacoma
Housed in a character-rich downtown building, Matador Tacoma is known for Mexican-inspired food, scratch-made cocktails, tequila and a lively happy hour.
Matador is more energetic and casual than romantic. It works well before a show, concert or other downtown Tacoma event. The Tacoma location is for guests 21 and older, operates on a walk-in basis and does not currently accept reservations.

Indo Asian Street Eatery
For bold flavors in a relaxed setting, Indo Asian Street Eatery serves dishes inspired by Southeast and East Asian street food.

After walking Chambers Bay or visiting the beach, Chambers Bay Grill is the natural choice. Pair Point Ruston and the Tacoma waterfront with Woven, WildFin or Duke’s. Combine a Gig Harbor afternoon with dinner at Brix 25° or Morso. For an intimate Italian evening closer to Chestnut Cottage, reserve a table at Marzano.
